What is the Excimer Laser? Patients often ask “How does a laser fix my vision?” In the case of nearsightedness, the laser will remove tissue from the central cornea. To steepen the central curve of the cornea in the case of farsightedness tissue is taken from the peripheral of the eye. In essence, the laser changes the shape of the cornea’s front. The corneal stroma, which is the tissue beneath the corneal epithelium, must be exposed in order to do this. You can do this by creating a corneal fold. The corneal flap is then protected by a corneal flap. LASIK uses a corneal flap that attaches to a hinge. This allows the corneal stroma to be exposed rather than vaporizing epithelial cells. We at lasikcoloradosprings.net have abandoned the blade, and we prefer the Intralase laser procedure.
Laser application takes between thirty and ninety seconds. The laser treatment of the corneal stroma and the vaporization of a small number of cells causes the flap to be replaced. The flap can be held in place by the natural suction of the eyes, which provides greater comfort and a shorter recovery time. It takes about ten to fifteen minutes for each eye and is almost painless.

There are no guarantees with surgical procedures. The results can be very good (95% of patients undergoing laser eye surgery in the national study no longer required glasses to drive), but they are dependent on the initial refraction and your healing characteristics. LASIK vision correction surgery can be a great way to reduce your dependency on contact lenses or glasses. Enhancements may be useful to improve vision if 20/20 vision cannot be achieved after the initial LASIK procedure. Patients who are capable of seeing 20/20 must be able to achieve 20/20. For instance, LASIK on a patient who can see only 20/40 is not likely to achieve the best-corrected vision of 20/40.
99% of our patients now have 20/20 vision thanks to LASIK Cascade advanced bladeless LASIK technology and the surgeons there. This allows them to live their lives without glasses or contact lenses. Are you a candidate for LASIK?
Our LASIK Cascade physicians will numb the eye using anesthetic drops before you begin your LASIK procedure. Although you might feel some pressure as the corneal flaps are being formed, it is very rare to experience actual pain. The discomfort that you feel after LASIK surgery will only last a few hours.
